PM Certification

Intensive Project Management Certificate Program

DA&R provides the Project Management Certificate Program in conjunction with St. Edward's University Professional Education Center. The PM Certificate program is designed to provide the core material from our Agile & Integrated Project Management Program coupled with in-depth project leading work so that attendees experience a full team-building, artifact-based approach to project management. There is significant reading and team project work required over several months.

The PM Certificate Program also provides approximately a day of PMP Exam Preparation material and practice. Having a PMP is becoming a huge advantage as project management grows in stature. The Project Management Institute offers this exam to both help practitioners demonstrate their skills and others recognize them. FYI there are well over 130,000 PMPs worldwide and growing fast. This course counts toward the formal education contact hours needed to sit for the exam.

This course is conducted in three formats: over 16 Tuesday and Thursday evenings, over 8 weeks.

Tips for Students

College students leaning toward Project Management may want internship and to seek the CAPM rather than PMP exam and certification.

  • If you have work experience or a high grade point or otherwise exhibit high motivation to work, then you will do well in our Project Management Certification SUE133 program.
  • The evening sessions would be better than the Boot Camp or SEU133d day sessions, as the information comes at a very fast pace in the Boot, in sets of consecutive days, rather than in 3-hour chunks with plenty of time in between to study and work the homework.
  • It takes an average of 10 hours per week including commute time from Austin with spikes upward when more than one or a long team meeting is needed.
  • My recommendation is for students to join the Austin PMI chapter Student membership.
  • They may want to volunteer for the Austin PMI chapter or write a short article for the newsletter letting people know their desire for an internship.
  • They should download the CAPM Certification PDF from www.PMI.org so that they get the most recent set of guidelines and rules.
  • PM Cert yields all the hours you need. The networking with other students, who are mostly experienced, as well as the instructors, may give them a head start for internships or other opportunities.
  • You will also get an incredible feel for what it is like to be a PM from the other students and instructors.
